1. Prerequisites : none
2. Contents : Relativity, photons, electrons, atoms, the wave nature of particles, quantum mechanics, superconductivity, atomic structure, molecules and condensed matter, nuclear physics, particle physics.
3. Objectives :

To introduce the concept of modern physics, and preparation for the course “Semiconductor Devices”.

4. Textbook/ Lecture notes :

Young and Freedman: “University Physics”. Volume 3, Pearson Education, 2008.

Note: For electronics engineers the volumes 1, 2 and 3 are recommended, whereas for computer engineers only volumes 1 and 2 are of interest.

5. Attendance : Compulsory attendance for theory lectures is 70%.
6. Grading : Midterm 40% Final 60%
7. Academic dishonesty : Academic dishonesty is related to cheating and plagiarism. Copying in whole or in part others’ assignments, lab works or exams, is considered cheating respectively plagiarism. All parties involved will receive a zero score for the lab, assignment or the exam.
